If anything, this results in more copies of Windows being used. Otherwise, seek your own morality and do what you feel is the right thing.Īre people dying because you're using that version? Fuck no. If you work for a public company, you should completely audit it, as compliance must be 100% in a public company. How you should proceed is up to you depending on what level of compliance you want to enforce. There are versions of Windows XP that have very different licensing rules, especially if they are PE versions.Ĭonsidering that Microsoft has not done a total DMCA/C&D takedown on hiren's bootcd, I suspect either they don't actually care, or the issue was resolved at some point. If you want to know whether you are actually breaking the licensing, you need to do a proper audit of a) what version of XP you are actually loading and b) the appropriate usage license of that exact version. If you want to know the real-world chance of you getting in trouble for using it, it is approaching negative infinity, as in, you will probably die before you get in trouble for it. It's still a great app as long as you make sure you use the advanced installer option and uncheck the crapware. I've heard chrome won't even let you download the most recent version because of it. Just beware of the crapware now shipping with sardu. You can even sideload most unsupported bootable disks via memdisk or grub in the menu's up top. The menus for sardu are just text files and are pretty easy to muck with, so it's not too difficult to hack 'em up to point directly to the tools you want rather than hiding them in layers of menus. Use winbuilder to build your own PE, which I believe is legal as long as the license you use to build it is retail, is legal on the machines which you use it on, and is not otherwise in use beyond the allotted number of computers simultaneously. Add other apps like actually decent stand alone anti-virus clients, linux distros, and windows recovery or installation disks. Delete whatever parts of Hirens or UBCD or any other tools you don't want included because of license issues. Use Sardu to put whatever tools you want in. The best thing to do is build your own disk.

If you're trying to rebuild ISOs this way I'd suggest ultraISO, I tried a bunch of different tools in windows and in linux and the trial of ultraISO was by far the one I had the best luck with of any of the free offerings, it was also far easier than a number of the other tools' less reliable or more expensive methods. I say aid because the menu files aren't too difficult to mess with, so I generally make myself menus that get me right to the tools I build various disks to do. It's still the best tool I've found to aid in building multiboot USBs or ISOs. Once it's installed without the crapware it's perfectly fine, in fact it's got more choices supported in the newer versions than the old had (which is a little unfortunate or we could just use the old one and do an end run on the whole crapware issue).

It's simple to not install it, just need to do an advanced install and uncheck the crapware, you just need to be aware of it. 2.0.6.5 definately has crapware, chrome won't even download it.
